Ski tours & snowshoe hiking
The region Murau-Kreischberg lies gently embedded between the most beautiful mountains and is a perfect holiday location for passionate touring skiers. Winter fun off the slopes is guaranteed as well. Guided ski tours in the holiday region are also possible.
The Tauern and the Nockberge offer multiple possibilities for touring skiers and ensure an active winter. You are able to explore the 2.740 m high Preber at the border to Lungau, the 2.396 m high and famous Ziribitzkogel and the 2.474 m high Greim on your touring ski. In summer, you’ll find countless hikers in the region.
After your ski tour, you have the chance to warm yourself up with a cup of tea at the Lercher’s Wirtshaus. In addition, we are happy to serve you something sweet from the menu. Afterwards you are able to round off the day with a visit to the in-house wellness area.
We gladly organize a tour guide for you! There is a rental service for ski-tour equipment available in Murau!
The Grebenzen is especially popular for longer, as well as shorter tours. The huts on the trail invite you to stay and rest for a while during your tour.
The tour has an intermediate level of difficulty and is about 6,75 km and approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes long. The tour starts at the bottom station of the mountain railway Grebenzen “Pabstin” in St. Lambrecht. Parking possibilities are available on-site. The destination of the tour is the Grebenzen mountain refuge, which is situated 1.680 m above sea level.
Starting from the bottom station, the tour leads west – first, along the path of the family slope and after the crossing of the road further over a grassy area towards the South(slight climb). Then you pass the “Pirkbauer farm” and hike towards the “monastery’s forest”.
The path of the family slope leads you up to the mountain to a small pass east of the “Gidikogel”. Afterwards, you have to follow the course of the family slope over a moderately increasing ridge. At about 1.600 m above sea level, the family slope turns north-east and leads over a forest path directly to the mountain refuge at the Grebenzen at 1.648 m above sea level.
The “Dreiwiesenhütten-Tour” is an ideal tour for in between times and for training purposes, with various great downhill opportunities.
The challenging tour is 7,11 km and about 2 hours long. The starting point is the bottom station of the mountain railway Grebenzen “Pabstin” 1.000 m above sea level in St. Lambrecht. Parking is possible directly on-site. The destination of the tour is the “Dreiwiesenhütte” at the first “Grebenzen-Höhe”.
From the bottom station Grebenzen you have to go west. First, the tour leads along the path of the family slope and afterwards over a grassy area with a slight climb towards the South. You pass the “Pirkbauer farm” and have to turn towards the “monastery’s forest”.
Then you have to cross the path of the family slope and hike through the “monastery’s forest” of St. Lambrecht. Afterwards, you climb up the mountain to a small pass east of the “Gidikogel”. After meeting the family slope again, you have to follow the route Nr. 134 South and after about 30 minutes the tour gets more challenging and leads you further along the relatively steep ridge. Please be careful – don’t underestimate the danger of avalanches at the northern side of the forest!
The climb goes further – through the deeply snow-covered winter forest up to the “Dreiwiesenhütte” at 1.660 m above sea level. From the “Dreiwiesenhütte” the tour leads you further to the first “Grebenzen-Höhe” on the left side of the hut, into the forest with a moderate climb to the mountain cross at the Grebenzen 1.870 m above sea level.
Explore the Styrian nature in a completely different way and ask our experts about possible snowshoe hikes.
The snowboard school “Suli” offers guided half-day snowshoe hikes between Christmas and Easter. You receive snowshoes and ski poles directly from the snowboard school.
In order to round off the tour you receive mulled wine. The ski school “Wirnsberger” offers snowshoe tours in the moonlight.
After the winter fun, you have the chance to relax during a massage in the wellness area of the Hotel Gasthof Lercher. Let us spoil you with a cosy dinner with corresponding wine from the Lercher’s wine cellar. There are numerous ski areas in the region.
The Frauenalpe, the local mountain of Murau, is well known amongst ski tourer and snowshoe hiker. As soon as it snows for the first time, there is a beautiful circuit awaiting you and your snowshoes.
The moderate climb to the “Trogerhütte”, the open space at the summit area, the view of the almost 2.000 m high summit and the various descents make this tour extra attractive. Starting point is the parking lot at the “Murauerhütte” 1.583 m above sea level. At the end of a successful snowshoe-day at the Frauenalpe, we recommend a brief – you’ve already had enough exercise for the day – stroll through the old town of Murau with a stop at the Hotel Lercher.
