100 % natural snow in close proximity to the Hotel Lercher
Only 15 minutes by car from the Hotel Gasthof Lercher in Murau, you have the possibility to enjoy the brilliant natural snow at the Frauenalpe! Ski operation is closed, but the region is still perfect for a winter holiday. With natural snow, there comes perfect conditions for snowshoeing and ski touring.
The Frauenalpe is situated in the “Murauer mountains”, directly above the historic town Murau.
Back at the Hotel Gasthof Lercher you have the chance to get spoiled with a massage at the wellness area. During the remaining days of your stay there are lots of winter activities waiting for you in the region, such as cross-country skiing or tobogganing. If you want to experience the mountain in a different way, try skiing or snowboarding at the Kreischberg. In summer, numerous hikers and cyclists are enjoying the region.
Snowshoe hiking at the Frauenalpe
You won’t be able to reach the deeply snow-covered places of the Frauenalpe with normal shoes, but you are definitely going to reach them with snowshoes. And the most important thing: you don’t need any prior knowledge to do it. Just put on your snowshoes and the tour through snow-covered landscapes can begin. You are able to rent the equipment at the bottom station of the Kreischberg (approx. 30 minutes from the Frauenalpe).
For all those amongst you, who would rather climb the mountain in a group, have the possibility to take part in a guided snowshoe hike. Professionals from the region and other participants are going to accompany you on the hike. At the beginning of the hike you are going to receive the right equipment – this means you don’t have to rent anything prior to the hike.
Ski touring at the Frauenalpe
The Frauenalpe has ceased its skiing operations, therefore all winter athletes have the chance to enjoy a ski tour on and off the slopes. The Frauenalpe has ideal tours for beginners, as well as for more experienced athletes.
Important information for all ski tourers:
Before you start your tour, you should check the weather conditions and avalanche warnings. You should also bring the right equipment and never forget the following gear:
- ski helmet
- emergency equipment with avalanche transceiver, avalanche probe and avalanche shovel
- ski-backpack with a change of clothes, food and enough to drink
Our final advice: If you are a beginner, don’t choose the longest and most challenging tour. You could rapidly lose your strength during difficult downhill conditions. Therefore, we recommend to start with a shorter and easier tour in the beginning.
