Timber museum – wood theme park

The timber museum is approx. 15 minutes by car from the Hotel Gasthof Lercher in Murau!

Since 1988 the timber museum is located in the heart of the “World of wood” area of Murau. It is a unique location, not only for expanding your knowledge about the natural resource wood, but also as an exciting destination for the whole family. Arts and crafts workshops, a wooden play ground, Arboretum (a tree garden with over 70 woody plants) and lots of exhibits on different levels and in differentbuildings.

The museum is perfect for families, because it is no ordinary exhibition, but an experience for layman as well as experts. A great programme with arts and crafts, bowling, nailing, walking on stilts and a lot more is awaiting you at the museum.

The idea of the “World of wood” was created in 1984 by the association “Styrian Timber Museum”. The goal was to give the resource wood a higher significance in modern everyday-life.

You can perfectly combine a tour to the timber museum with a hike at the Gstoder. Countless other hikes and cycling paths are available in the region Murau-Kreischberg as well.
